Who we are
HomeCostFinder.com is an independent cost research site for U.S. homeowners. We publish cost guides and interactive calculators for home and HVAC projects — starting with furnace replacement, the project where homeowners tell us pricing is hardest to pin down before a contractor walks through the door.
We are not a contractor, a lead broker, or a manufacturer. We do not perform installations, sell equipment, or take a cut of any job. That independence is the point: our only obligation is to the reader trying to figure out whether a quote is reasonable.
Our methodology
Every figure on this site starts from published data, not from our own guesswork. We build a national baseline cost for a project, then adjust it for state-level differences in labor and living costs, and finally apply project-specific factors such as equipment tier, home size and scope of work.
Reported costs from thousands of completed homeowner projects give us the national baseline range for each guide.
Used to translate that national baseline into state-level ranges, since installation labor is the largest source of geographic variation.
HVAC technician wage data and material price trends, used to sanity-check labor assumptions and keep figures current.
Why this site exists
Most homeowners replace a furnace once or twice in a lifetime, usually under pressure — often in the middle of winter, with a technician standing in the basement. That is the worst possible moment to be learning what a fair price looks like.
Our goal is simple: give you a realistic cost range for your state and your home before you start calling contractors, so you can recognize a reasonable quote, ask better questions, and negotiate from a position of information rather than urgency.
